Rehearsal 1
In today's lesson we explored different ways to build on our character, we learned that characterisation doesn't come from our mind and thinking about it it comes from interacting with other actors and using the space around us.
we needed to feel that we didn't need to force our actions and just let them flow naturally and begin to work on naturalistic acting.
An exercise we did was walking around the room and when it felt right we had to make eye contact with someone and have a moment with them. This could make both people feel quite awkward and would sometimes result in laughing or breaking the moment and walking away. We learned that those reactions were completely natural and we just had to use those awkward moments and both share it together instead of seeing it in a negative way. Stanislavsky's method used this and showed the fact that it is acting influenced by your surroundings and is truthful to the situation.
We also had a first look into Chekhov's 'The Cherry Orchard'. We began to discuss the main themes of the play and they are:
- Cultural futility
- Russian modernity vs old Russia
- Progress and social change
- Liberation, Independence and Freedom
