Today's lesson we saw other pieces that were devised by each tutor group based on different themes of 'The Cherry Orchard'.
SST, the first tutor group to perform their piece was based on freedom and looked at how today's society made some people feel trapped and free to express themselves at all. They talked about hobbies and interests they enjoy doing that make them feel free and how some people look down on them and discourage them from expressing themselves in this way. I really enjoyed the audience interaction at the end, they asked us what made us feel free and it made me really think about what being free means to me.
Sarah's tutor group went next and their theme was memories. they showed the orchard growing with the actors and showed memories being made all whilst the cherry orchard is always there growing with the memories. They used actors to make the cherry orchard which was a really imaginative piece of physical theatre. The theme of memories in 'The Cherry Orchard' is very relevant especially to the character of Ranyevskaya. She always gets so emotional when she see's the cherry orchard because all of her fondest memories of being a child living on the estate revolve around the cherry orchard being there through all of it.
